1. Dubai is one of seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates.  

2. You’ll find 25% of the world’s cranes in Dubai. 

3. With the emirate’s constant expansion, there are roadworks and construction projects everywhere.

4. In order to work in Dubai, you’ll need to provide a 'clean' sample of blood as part of getting your residence visa and work permit.

5. In 1960, there wasn’t a single tarmac road in Dubai.

6. Nowadays, traffic congestion is horrendous; in fact, some analysts reckon it’s worse than Cairo.

  

7. The UAE’s roads are also some of the most dangerous in the world.

24. Watch out for red back spiders lurking in your garden or garage. 

25. Drive-thru ATMs (cash point machines) are a real boon, especially during the scorching summer months.

26. According to press reports, Dubai generates the highest amount of waste per capita and has the largest ecological footprint in the world.

27. Although sun rich, there are currently no solar-powered homes anywhere in the Middle East.
